Plug doors are used on most modern helicopters/airliners, particularly for small passenger doors. However, since plug doors must open inward, the design is disadvantageous for cargo doors. Cargo aircraft doors often open outward and use a locking mechanism with multiple pins, or “hatch dogs,” to prevent opening while in flight. 

The plug door is often seen on aircraft with pressurized cabins. Due to the air pressure within the aircraft cabin being higher than that of the surrounding atmosphere, the door seals itself closed as the aircraft climbs and the pressure differential increases. 

A major component affecting the efficacy of aircraft doors are the types of hinges that are used. Large commercial airliners, business jets, helicopters, fighter jets, military transport, drones, space exploration craft and satellites all rely on the unmatched strength and dependability that aerospace hinges are recognized for. Aerospace hinges are installed on doors of cargo, passenger and galley aircraft in addition to landing-gear doors.

Seats

Most aircraft feature trays for eating and reading, either in the seatback which folds down to form a small table in most economy class seats, or inside the armrest which folds out in most first class, business class, bulkhead, and exit row seats. Most airline seats also feature a pocket which may contain an in-flight magazine and safety instructions. 

Airline seats are designed to be lightweight, yet fire resistant, while also considering passenger comfort. A typical design is an aluminum frame with blocks of polyurethane foam attached to it. In some cases, a layer of fire-resistant fabric—typically Kevlar or Nomex—is installed within the seat.
