About ITT Cannon
ITT Cannon, originally named Cannon, was founded in 1915. The company’s original products included synchronous motors for remotely operating motion pictures, and connectors that allowed electric cameras to move more freely while shooting scenes. The company continued developing connectors that were utilized in the first radio microphones, black & white television cameras, and color television equipment.
Cannon later entered the aerospace industry following the development of a circulator connector for Douglas Aircraft platforms to fulfil a contract during the 1930’s. Cannon also developed the D-sub connector, which brought them into the military market as well. In the 1950’s, Cannon created a solution for analog and digital connections with their XLR connector that was designed for military communications. Over the years, Cannon would enter new markets with products for space programs, medical electronics industries, as well as automotive markets. In 1963, ITT Inc., a worldwide manufacturing company, acquired Cannon, which became ITT Cannon. In recent years, the company’s acquisitions have included BIW and VEAM.
