NSNs are 13-digits numbers assigned to items of the federal supply chain by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), and used by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). NSNs make classifying and organizing parts easier with their inherently systematic nature. The 13-digits are comprised of two parts, the first 4 digits are the Federal Supply Groups Code (FSGC) and the last 9 digits are the National Item Identification Number (NIIN). The FSGC is further comprised of two parts, the first 2 digits are the Federal Supply Group (FSG) and the last 2 digits are the Federal Supply Code (FSC).
