About Hitachi

In 1910 electrical engineer Namihei Odaira founded the company. The very first product was the 4-kilowatt (5 hp) induction motor. The company started as an in house venture of Fusanosuke Kuhara's mining company in Hitachi, Ibaraki, but in time transferred to Tokyo. Years later, the company would undergo several drastic changes due to reconstruction efforts from World War II. In 1949, Hitachi went public and ten years later, Hitachi America, Ltd was established. They officially stopped making TVs in 2012 and would acquire the UK based nuclear energy company Horizon Nuclear Power. Hitachi and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries combined their thermal power energy businesses into a joint venture with 35% going to Hitachi and the remainder going to the latter. Now Hitachi is known worldwide as a multinational conglomerate operating in eleven business segments, those which are the railway & urban systems, electronic systems & equipment information & telecommunication systems, social infrastructure, high functional materials & components, financial services, power systems, automotive systems, digital media & consumer products, construction machinery and other components & systems.

• Industrial Social Infrastructure:  Hitachi manufactures several components in industrial and infrastructure systems including power semiconductors & micro devices, water treatment equipment, elevators and escalators, precision amplifiers for motor control, etc.
• Scientific Research Equipment: Hitachi manufactures a diverse supply of standard and variable pressure Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM), Atomic Force Microscopes (supply of Electron microscopes and other electron microscopes. They also manufacture Focused Ion Beam systems
